Roar Will Give You The Voice You've Never Had

Roar
- Cecelia Ahern

First of all, can we just acknowledge the fact that this was the first bookish PR I have ever been sent! (Don't worry that won't affect the review) I feel like I've made it, all achievements accomplished! Anyway, let's carry on with the review! I have only read two other Ahern books and I loved them both, but this one was very different.

Synopsis:
"Have you ever imagined a different life?

Have you ever stood at a crossroads, undecided? Have you ever had a moment when you wanted to roar?

From much-loved, international bestseller Cecelia Ahern come stories for all of us: the women who befriend us, the women who encourage us, the women who make us brave. From The Woman Who Slowly Disappeared to The Woman Who Returned and Exchanged her Husband, discover thirty touching, often hilarious, stories and meet thirty very different women. Each discovers her strength; each realizes she holds the power to make a change.

Witty, tender, surprising, these keenly observed tales speak to us all, and capture the moment when we all want to roar."

------

This is the first short story collection I have ever read and I was not disappointed at all! This was so different from her other works that I have read, but great nonetheless. The collection consists of thirty different stories from thirty different women and their navigation through their own identity and how they fit into society.
Ahern has some striking comments on how women are portrayed and how some women limit their own potential, but these comments are executed in a very satirical and comical way. This satirical form makes the whole collection seem a bit whimsical and storybook-like due to the ridiculous nature of some of the stories like 'The Woman The Sprouted Wings' (not sure if that is the actual title).
Also, the whimsical nature opens the readers' eyes to view society and different situations in a new light.
And I love how she included women of different backgrounds, ethnicities, social classes and sexualities. Showing that these issues affect everyone!

Like with any collection you will associate more with some stories compared to others. So some of the stories did not catch my attention as much as others but that is because it is all subjective and the ones that will resonate with you might be different to the ones that affect me.

Overall, I love the writing and the style that Ahern decided to take. Her stories are all something that everyone should be exposed to and you will not regret it!
