First off, I saw this book all over my bookstagram and just knew I had to get it without even knowing anything about it. So that is what I did, and I am glad I did because I love this book so much!
Here's a little synopsis and then I'll continue with the review:

Before you enter the world of Caraval, you must remember that it’s all a game...

Welcome to Caraval, where nothing is quite what it seems.

Scarlett has never left the tiny isle of Trisda, pining from afar for the wonder of Caraval, a once-a-year, week-long performance where the audience participates in the show. Caraval is magic, mystery adventure and for Scarlett and her beloved sister Tella it represents freedom and an escape from their ruthless, abusive father. When Scarlett discovers her father has arranged a marriage for her she believes all her hopes of escape have been dashed.

Then the sisters' long-awaited invitations to Caraval finally arrive and it seems their dreams have come true. Yet, no sooner have they entered the confines of Caraval than Tella vanishes, kidnapped by the show's mastermind organiser, Legend.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But nonetheless she quickly becomes enmeshed in a dangerous game of love, magic and heartbreak. Real or not, she must find Tella before the game is over, and her sister disappears forever.

This world is creatively unique and the attention to detail is insane, Garber allows the reader to use all of their sense and imagine themselves in this crazy world. The backbone of this novel is pure love and admiration between the sisters, Scarlett and Donatella. And this is utterly refreshing! To have a novel centred around familial love, rather than romance. It reminds me of Clary's love and drive to save her mother in The Mortal Instruments.

The game is all about not being too trustworthy and not believing in everything you see. And the reader feels these emotions just as much as Scarlett does, we are also unsure as to what is real and unreal.

Also prepare yourself for some serious twists!!

Overall... I loved it! There was action, drama, suspense and mystery knitted together with a beautiful love story between two sisters.
