Unique and breathtaking! That's the only way I can sum up this novel in a few words.
Here is a little synopsis (from Goodreads):
Life is in two parts: who you were before you met her, and who you are after.

A documentary crew discover a mysterious young women living alone in the mountains of West Cork. Strikingly beautiful she has an extraordinary talent for mimicry, like the famous Australian Lyrebird. The crew, fascinated, make her the subject of her story, and bestow the nickname upon her.

When they leave, they take Lyrebird with them back to the city. But as she leaves behind her peaceful life to learn about a new world, is she also leaving behind a part of herself? For her new friend Solomon the answer isn’t clear. When you find a rare and precious thing, should you share it – or protect it…

This is an unusual romance novel but it is definitely a good one and oh so refreshing. I also love the fact that Ahern manages to make a few storylines within the one main plotline; there is the question of the Toolin Brothers, Rachel and her new baby, Bo and her connections to StarrQuest, but my favourite has to be the branch off towards Solomon's family. The part of the novel that Laura and Solomon visit his family home is by far my favourite, there is something warm and natural about this scene; something that I enjoy very much. Ahern shows the how everyone has a family but in different ways, the same way that relationships change and develop in different ways no matter how hard the characters try to keep it together.
The essence of fairytale is brought back to reality in regards to the talent show, everything about this show broke my heart especially following Laura's crazy night on the town. Ahern shows the harshness of humanity as well as the soft and gentleness of it.

What really topped it off for me was the little Lyrebird facts at the start of each part, the facts give an insight into what Laura is feeling and what is to come (so don't skip out on reading them!)

Overall I highly recommend this novel! It will lead you on a rollercoaster ride of emotion and experience, all without moving and inch.
